Orientalists and Hadith Scholarship: Some Reflections

By Shaykh Mohammad Akram Nadwi In this article, Shaykh Akram Nadwi discusses the shortcomings – while also recognizing the value – of an “outsider’s” perspective on Islam, which in this case refers to Orientalists. One of the shortcomings of such perspectives is the disregard for the “insider’s” perspective which Orientalists consider unworthy and spoiled due to faith-bias.
